Ann Richards was the Texas State Treasurer and the second woman Governor of Texas. She was a champion of women and diversity in government, worked for prison reform and strengthened the education system of Texas.  She remained an outspoken advocate for women's rights and education after her political career had ended.  She was known for her one liners.
